I always wondered what happened to Patty Mayonnaise (“Doug”). Well, she ended up in the pen. It was bound to happen sooner or later.
For three consecutive nights, I’ve been sleep depraved. Why? Because of Netflix’s awesome new series, “Orange Is The New Black.” It’s like crack… which I won’t be doing after seeing what happens behind prison walls.
Anyway, in the pilot episode, we’re introduced to inmate, Yoga Jones, played by Constance Shulman. As it turns out, I, like most people, thought it was Edie Falco making a cameo appearance. After all, Edie is no stranger to prison. She was in “Oz.” However, that thought was dashed the minute Yoga opened her mouth. It was Patty Mayonnaise!! I’d know that voice anywhere. It was so cool seeing her again. I first saw her in human form in the film “Weekend At Bernies II.” She had a small role in it. Again, I knew it was her from the voice.
Anyhoo, she plays an amazing character in Orange: a hippy yoga (thus, the nickname) instructor, who gives lessons to the inmates. Each inmate gets to tell their story, why they were sitting prison in the first place. I do wish Yoga’s story was given a proper flashback, not just a brief monologue. Constance does give a brilliant performance recounting her character’s backstory though. It’s heart-wrenching. I hope she comes back for the second season, which is already in production!
