Smoked salmon blinis are one of the most popular party and buffet items in the world, with many event organizers understanding that these soft and small buffet items giving any event a luxurious feel and extremely tasty dish. The smoked salmon blini has long been used for canapes at parties and events created by professionals, with more and more people putting on their own events looking to create these simple to prepare menu items for a simple choice that will be loved by almost every party attendee no matter what the season is.
No cooking is actually required when preprepared blinis are sourced at a local grocery store, which is now easy to do as prepackaged blini packs now available in packs of between 20 and 24. The blini resembles a small pancake and usually comes as a circle that is prepared in a small package or frozen as a larger item. The majority of cooks and chefs who use preprepared blinis use the freshly packaged version over the frozen version, which must be fried before being used. A second reason preprepared blinis are used is to reduce preparation time of around 20 smoked salmon blinis to less than thirty minutes with no cooking or heating required.
The required ingredients for around 20 smoked salmon blinis include 7 oz. of smoked salmon, 20 blinis, 5 fl. oz. of sour cream, one lemon, one shallot, one small bunch of dill and ground black pepper for seasoning. Once these ingredients have been assembled the first step is to prepare the smoked salmon by dicing it into small pieces. The simplest way of completing this is to slice the salmon in parallel lines before turning it through 90 degrees and slicing again in parallel lines. By turning the salmon and continuing to slice it as it is cut the pieces are diced into small, fine pieces.
Next, the lemon has its zest removed with a zester, only the yellow of the lemon should be used for zesting as the white of the outer layer can be bitter and spoil the taste of the prepared blini. The finely diced pieces of smoked salmon should then be placed into a bowl with the juice of half the lemon added and seasoned with the black pepper. The shallot should then be diced and added to the smoked salmon mixture, that is then stirred thoroughly until it is combined well.
The next step is to take the preprepared blinis and on each one spread a thin layer of sour cream, a spoonful of the salmon mixture is then added to the top of the sour cream. A small garnish should then be added to the blini, which should include the thin strips of zested lemon and a small piece of dill that are placed on top of the smoked salmon mixture. Both the lemon and dill compliment both the sour cream and smoked salmon mixture to create a small food item that is perfectly balanced and enjoyed by guests at any event.
A prawn cocktail is a wonderful combination of a filling snack food and a delicious drink that is able to help to keep one awake. They are also a very good way to fight a hangover, and they are a staple of poolside relaxing. Making a prawn cocktail involves cooking the prawns, and then fixing them into a cocktail.
Marinating the prawns
The first part of making a prawn cocktail is marinating the prawns in a nice lime juice. The most basic way to do this is to simply put the prawns in a bowl that is filled with a little bit of lime juice. However, it is a much better idea to put the prawns in a bowl that is filled with a combination of chili peppers, jalapeno peppers, garlic, onions, butter, oil, and grated lime rind. This will help to add a huge amount of flavor to the limes. The limes should be left in the juice for about three or four hours, and it is a good idea to keep the juice for making more prawns or later cooking applications. However, it is important to avoid storing the juice for long periods of time as it does have spoilable items in it.
Cooking the prawns
The prawns now need to be cooked. The best way to cook pawns is to simply put them on a barbeque grill. The grill should be coated in oil in order to prevent the prawns from sticking to the grill. The prawns can also simply be fried on the stove. It is possible to serve the prawns without cooking it as the lime juice will simply cook it. This method of cooking is exceptionally popular for persons who like to have a more Mexican feel to the dish.
Making the cocktail
With the prawns cooked, one can now make a nice prawn cocktail. The most basic prawn cocktail simply involves filling a cocktail glass with cocktail sauce, and then arranging the prawns around the rim of the glass. However, there are a huge number of ways for a person to make a prawn cocktail better. A great way to make the cocktail better is to add things like horseradish sauce, black pepper, and even hot sauce. It is also a good idea to add extra treats like olives, melon balls, pickled peppers, and a lot of persons even to like a little bit of crispy bacon in it.
The process of making an alcoholic prawn cocktail will involve mixing vodka in. However, there are a couple of important tricks to make an alcoholic one better. It is a good idea to replace some of the cocktail sauce with spicy tomato juice. This will help for one to have a much easier time drinking down the cocktail. It may be a good idea to put the cocktail in more of a thin drinking glass, and to put in things like celery. Adding even more spices will cover up the alcoholic taste.
Everyone loves an easy Italian dish but it just seems like there are no tasty Italian dishes that take less than three hours to prepare properly. Look no further, brushetta is a fantastic option. This easy to prepare, easy to eat, and impressive dish is faster than you may ever have known. Here are five easy steps to the perfect brushetta. You will need one French baguette, tomatoes, basil, butter, and garlic.
1. Slicing and Toasting Your Bread- there is a very specific way that a brushetta needs to be cut. You should cut your slices thin, about half an inch, and on the bias. This means at an angle so that you get long, thin pieces of bread to put on your topping. After that, you should take a bit of butter and spread it lightly over your slices to help them get nice and golden brown in the oven. Put your bread in the oven for about five minutes so that it can get toasty without being burnt. If you stay close by and pay close attention, you can use the broiler to expedite the process.
2. Prep Your Topping- you now need to start getting your topping ready. You want to chop your tomatoes into small enough pieces that they will be able to rest on top of your bread easily without falling off. Make sure you seed your tomatoes to insure that the most moisture possible has been removed from the before you put them on your bread. You want your brushetta to be toasty and crisp. You can seed your tomatoes by cutting them in half then gently squeezing them to remove the seeds and pulp. You then need to chop your basil finely so that it is small enough to permeate your topping. Mix the two together and allow them to sit.
3. Ready Your Bread- the next step is to get your bread out of the oven and ready for the delicious topping you have made. Take a clove of garlic that has been cut in half and rub it lightly on the bread to give a hint of garlic taste without the intense garlic flavor. This will add a bit of depth to the dish without offending those guests that do not like garlic. You can then get your bread lined up and ready for topping.
4. Add Your Topping- after you have gotten your bread ready, spoon a bit of topping on each slice of bread. Make sure you heap it lightly for presentation but not so high that you cannot pick them up easily to eat. Add the topping to all the pieces and arrange them on your serving platter.
5. Finishing Touches- the last thing you want to do is add some finishing touches. The perfect finishing touch is extra virgin olive oil drizzled on top. Drizzle just a bit on each slice to add a bold rich flavor without adding too much. This is a great easy dish that can be thrown together in moments and that is a perfect appetizer.
The breakfast casserole is a classic of American cuisine, mixing all the elements of the well known American breakfast in a single casserole dish. There are many variations of this well loved dish, with this recipe offering a simple, yet effective way of creating a great tasting breakfast dish that can be created freshly for a morning or made ahead of time and frozen for a weekend or special event. The recipe itself can be altered to include all the parts of a classic breakfast that are liked by those who are to consume the breakfast casserole or to remove elements unwanted by an individual or family.
The first step is to assemble and prepare all the ingredients to be included in the breakfast casserole. Firstly, 24 oz. of pork sausage should be obtained, along with 1 cup of bell pepper chopped into small pieces. An onion should be diced until 1/2 cup is available, 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese and 3 cups of frozen hash browns should also be included in the recipe. To complete the recipe 1 cup of instant biscuit mix, 2 cups of milk, 4 eggs and 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper. Once all the ingredients are assembled and vegetables chopped, the recipe should be easy to complete with just 20 to 30 minutes of preparation time.
An oven should be preheated to 400F, a casserole dish measuring 13×9 should then be greased to make sure the cooked breakfast casserole does not stick and can be removed in slices with ease. As the onion is preheating the sausage, onion and pepper can be cooked for ten minutes in a large skillet until the sausage is thoroughly cooked and no longer shows any pink meat in the skillet. Any excess fat can be drained from the sausage mixture at this point and the mixture placed into the greased casserole dish. At this point the frozen has browns and 1 1/2 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese can be stirred into the dish.
In a separate dish the instant biscuit mixture, milk, 1/4 teaspoon of pepper and eggs can be combined and mixed until it has all blended together. The instant biscuit mix can then be added to the casserole dish and stirred together until it has all blended together. At this point the casserole dish can be placed in the preheated oven and the mixture cooked for between one and one 1/2 hours. Once a knife or toothpick can be inserted and removed from the center of the casserole and comes out clean the dish can be removed from the oven. To complete the recipe the final 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese can then be sprinkled on the top surface of the casserole and the dish returned to the oven until the cheese melts in just one to two minutes. Remove the dish from the oven and either eat soon after the casserole has cooled a little or freeze for future use.
Fall is here, and French Toast Compote is a season favorite of many cooks. Below is a recipe that shows how to make this meal in a few simple steps. This recipe can also be made without any expensive canning equipment, and without a specific recipe.
Many people are unaware of what compote really is. Compote is similar to jam, but it is much easier to make. There is no need for any extra thickeners when compote is being made. Canning is also not needed during the process of making compote, which mane people are afraid to do. At it’s most basic defintion, compote is fruit. It is then broken apart using heat. A bit of flavor is then added to the mix to complete the delicious treat.
In addition to this being very simple to create, it is also very convenient. Compote can be made up of whatever fruit is sitting in your refridgerator. Many people love compote because they can get rid of any leftover fruit, or anything that is about to expire. Compote can also be cooked in less than an hour. Once the compote is created, it can be poured on your french toast for any easy meal.
The first step in making compote is throwing whatever fruit you have together. Many like to put the fruits that are in season into their compote. It is important to remember that this is the perfect time to use whatever is almost ready to be thrown out. When the heat, sugar, and acid is added the fruit will be transformed to it’s almost original state.
Any source of acid should also be pulled out. This can include lime, lemon, or vinegar. Sweeteners such as syrup, honey, and sugar as well as salt should be added to the fruit. It is recommened that different combinations are tried in order to find your favorite.
Any parts of the fruit that cannont be eaten should be cut off. Your citrus should be zested and then everything should be put into the pan that you are using. If your compote is going to have a thinner consistency, a few splashes of water or juice should be added.
The compote should then be put over low heat. You will know the mixture is ready when you can smell the fruit! Some people choose to let the fruit break down all the way, while others like it to be together. When the fruit is as soft as you want it, the mixture is done. Let the mixture cool.
Step Four (French Toast)
Creating french toast is even easier than making the compote. Eggs, milk, and maple syrup should all be mixed together in a bowl. Bread should then be put into the dish and coated with the mixture. The coated bread should then be put onto a frying pan that is lightly oiled with grease. The french toast should be cooked until they are golden brown.
After the french toast is cooked the warmed compote should then be poured over top. Your meal is now ready to serve!
A frittata is a breakfast dish that originated in Spain and is versatile enough to be eaten for lunch or dinner as well as for snacks throughout the night. Frittatas can be filled with a variety of different fillings and can therefore take on many forms. This article will discuss basics tips for making a frittata as well as provide two separate recipes for doing so.
The first frittata recipe that we will discuss is a potato, onion and cheese one. The key to this dish is to use potatoes that have already been heated up as eggs will cook quickly and many people don’t have the patience to cook potatoes in the morning for breakfast. Leftover potatoes make for great additions to a frittata. Simply dice the potatoes into manageable pieces and begin to saute with thinly sliced onions in a bit of oil. Many different types of oils work in a frittata but try to avoid oils that give off a strong flavor such as an avocado, truffle, or sesame oil. Cook the potatoes and onions until tender and keep them on the heat. Mix up three to four eggs in a bowl and then stir until the yolk is broken and the yolks and egg whites are thoroughly mixed together.
Once this is done you will simply pour the egg mixture over the potatoes and onions in the pan while the heat is on. It is often a good idea to lower the heat before doing so in order to have enough time to allow for you to work the egg slightly. Once the edges of the eggs set, use a spatula to lift up the sides and let the wet egg on top underneath. This will allow for a more thoroughly cooked frittata and avoid any sort of runny egg material. Wait until the frittata is solid and then slide the entire frittata onto a plate. This will take a bit of practice to get perfect. An alternative method is to place a plate on top of the pan and flip it over. That way the frittata is converted over to the plate without the mess and fuss that you would get from sliding the mixture over.
Once this is done and your frittata is on your plate keep the fire on and slide the frittata back into the plate so that you can cook the other side. You will want a slightly brown and slight crisp on the frittata in order to have an authentic flavor. Then add some shredded cheese of your choice over the top until it melts and serve immediately.
As an alternative, try a bacon and sausage frittata. To make, saute the bacon and sausage disregarding a significant amount of the oil from the mixture. Then add the egg mixture and follow the above steps.
A frittata is a versatile food and be sure to experiment with your favorite ingredients. There is no limit to the ingredients that you can add to a frittata so be sure to add what you like to try different combinations.

A homemade apple pie is something that is delicious at any time of the year. There are a few different ways that you can make this dessert, and you can top it with a variety of garnishes.
The flavor of your pie will depend on the kind of apples you use and the amount of sugar that you add. Some people add other spices, but you can make something basic with just apples, sugar and a little cinnamon. The crust is another component that you can change depending on what you like in design or where you will serve the pie. A lattice design is ideal for a summer celebration while a full crust on the top offers a little more sophistication in the dessert.
Making an apple pie is not that hard if you have the right supplies. The first thing you need to do is preheat the oven to 400 degrees. You will need a clean surface on a counter or table so that you can roll out the dough for the crust. A plastic mat for cookies is a good idea so that you can easily wash it after rolling the crust. Mix together butter, four and salt in a large bowl. A fork will work to get the batter to a point that you can make small balls. This is the point where you add water to make the dough smooth. Don’t add too much water because you will make it too runny.
When you have enough water in the dough, start kneading it with your hands. You will forma large ball so that you can transfer it to the rolling surface. You will divide the dough in half, refrigerating one half of the dough. You can refrigerate both portions of dough before rolling the crust. Leave the dough for about 30 minutes if you choose this option. Roll one of the dough balls on a flat surface until it is slightly larger than the pie pan. Two inches is a good measurement. Use the rolling pan to lift the crust to place it in the bottom of the pan. When the dough is placed, trim the edges of the dough so that it is even.
This is when you will add your apples and other ingredients. Blend diced apples, white and brown sugar, lemon juice, salt and flour in a bowl. Granny Smith apples work well, but they do have a sour flavor. However, the sugars can help tame this if you use enough. Add spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour the apple mixture into a refrigerated pie crust. Sprinkle a small amount of cinnamon on top of the mixture. The remaining dough will be used for the top crust. You can roll out the dough to a flat shape, draping the dough over the pie. Make sure you trim the edges, and use a fork to secure the edges of the top and bottom crusts together. You can also cut strips of dough to lay across the pie in a lattice design. Bake for about 15 minutes. Top with whipped cream or ice cream.
Panna cotta is a creamy Italian dessert that is much more common in restaurants than home kitchens. However, the sweet treat is very easy to make. Panna cotta, which is “cooked cream” in Italian, consists of a sweetened cream mixture that is set or molded with gelatin. The gelatin thickens the panna cotta without the use of starches or eggs, and gives the dessert a custard-like consistency. Only a little gelatin is needed, so the dessert will maintain its custard feel and not turn into Jell-O. Panna cotta should feel like a silky when eaten. The dessert can be flavored in a number of different ways, including coconut. This coconut panna cotta is sure to be a treat among family and friends.
For this recipe, you’ll need:
1 can of full-fat coconut milk
1/3 cup of maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 sheets of gelatin (gelatin should be in powder form to make sheets)
In a small saucepan, whisk a cup of coconut milk with powdered gelatin. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes so the gelatin can start to take shape.
Add the vanilla extract to the coconut milk and gelatin mixture. Heat the mixture over medium-low heat. Whisk the panna cotta periodically to make sure the gelatin has dissolved completely. Do not cook the mixture on high heat, as this will cause it to boil.
When the gelatin has dissolved completely, remove it from the heat and add the maple syrup. Stir in the remaining coconut milk.
Pour the panna cotta into four small dishes and place the dishes in the refrigerator. the panna cotta should set for at least 4 hours.
While the panna cotta is setting, you can create a passionfruit curd to go on top. For this you’ll need:
1 cup of passionfruit pulp
1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup of finely ground sugar
1 cup of butter
8 extra large eggs that have been beaten lightly
Place a heat-resistant mixing bowl over a saucepan filled with simmering water. The bottom of the bowl should not be touching the water. Put the sugar and butter into the bowl and stir the mixture until all ingredients are combined.
In another large bowl, mix the passionfruit pulp, lemon juice and eggs together. Add this to the heated butter mixture and stir over low heat until the curd thickens. This will take about 10 minutes.
Remove the curd from the heat once it has been thickened. Put the curd in a sterilized jar.
After the panna cotta has set, serve it with a dollop of curd and garnish with a mint leaf before serving.
Panna cotta is usually unmolded before serving. Unmolding the dessert shows its texture and gives the panna cotta a lighter taste. You can, however, put the desserts out for serving still in their containers to make for visually appealing presentation. You can also serve the panna cotta with shredded coconut on top to emphasize the flavor of the cream.
There are literally hundreds of different smoked barbecue pork ribs recipes available, some more complicated than others. The key to the perfect ribs is getting back to the basics. One of the other keys to a great rib is simplicity, being able to make them on our own with minimal ingredients. Here are some simple step by step techniques on how to make smoked barbecue pork ribs to perfection.
Step 1. The Ingredients

Step 2. Removal of the Membrane
To create the perfect ribs, you need to allow the smoke to be able to permeate the entire slab of meat. The way you do this is by removing the membrane that is attached to the bottom portion of the ribs. Take a sharp knife, score the section of the membrane that runs along the bottom of the ribs. Using a spoon, put it between the membrane and meat and simply pull it off and trash it.
Step 3. Get Rubbing
This step will allow you to flavor the ribs to perfection. Use some yellow mustard, and squirt it over the entire surface of the ribs. Take both hands and rub in that mustard so it soaks into the entire piece of meat. The vinegar in the mustard will make the meat tender, the consistency will help to give the rub something to stick to better. Take your favorite rub, and now work it into the ribs thoroughly.
Step 4. Wrapping the Ribs

Step 6. Spray the Ribs
After two hours of the ribs smoking, you are going to begin to spray them down. What you need is a spray bottle filled with your favorite beer or even apple juice. Start spraying at the two hour mark, then every 20 minutes after that. This is going to make this ribs so moist and juicy.
Step 7. Remove the Ribs
Now that the ribs have been cooking for up to 6 hours, take them off the smoker. Start slicing the ribs, noticing how easy they literally fall apart as you do. make sure that you slice right along the bone to get the juiciest cuts. The meat should come apart with little effort.
