Well, fuck me!
Eileen Davidson, who made a triumphant return as Kristen DiMera in 2012 after a 14-year absence, wrapped up her DAYS stint on July 16. Because DAYS tapes so far in advance, she will air through the remainder of the year. “The Kristen story wrap-up is just fantastic; she was just glorious,” raves Executive Producer Ken Corday. “The official word there is that Eileen Davidson is leaving the show to take some time out with her family. Will she come back? We’ll see. But she’s not going to another show. I am thankful for all she’s brought to us. It was the first shot in the arm we needed. A big shot in the arm.” For more from Corday, pick up the next issue of Digest, on sale Friday.
Here’s what Eileen just put out via her Twitter account:
“You’re all so awesome! I didn’t get fired. My family is fine. Thanks for your love and support! xoxoxo”
Jason47 just released this:
So not much speculation is needed at this point. Eileen was obviously at the end of her first (or only) year of her contract. As stated on my “Days” site, the “contract status” for each actor is just an educated guess. Although I listed July 2014 as her end date, that again was just a guess. Most likely she signed for a one-year commitment, and that commitment was up as of July 16. Don’t need to look much further than that in regards to her leaving. Of course it would be planned (and not abrupt) if her deal was done last week. So, those on the message boards can sort of let any conspiracy theories as to her leaving rest!!
I really hope she isn’t leaving due to the massive amount of work they were giving her. It was like 40-60 pages a day or something, everything shot out of sequence. Eileen was making the show. She had originally returned last July, and here were are in July again, so she’s been with us for one year.
I’m glad to hear she’s not leaving to go to another show. “Young & the Restless” was horrible. Eileen was giving Emmy-worthy material on “Days.” She originally left the show back in the 90s due to how much work they were giving her — the whole Susan Banks story, which had her playing 5 characters week after week.
Now they just cast a Kristen lookalike, which they just cast. They also put out a call for a Blake Berris lookalike. They’re saying that they’re not recasting Kristen (like they’re not recasting Will), so what gives? This EIleen lookalike won’t be seen with Eileen, at least not for long. Eileen will be gone. Too strange.
So here’s where we are currently: Chandler Massey, Camila Banus, Casey Deidrick are gone. Wilson is probably done. No Bo or John. Do we honestly want to sit through Jennifer and Daniel, and EJ and Sami week after week??! The show is going to have to essentially start all over again, casting new characters, starting totally new storylines.
I hope Eileen returns. The writers did the hard part, which was bringing Eileen back after 14 years, reintroducing her to a new generation of viewers. Now they can just bring her back and have her pick up where she left off. Chloe is returning. Maybe Kristen will go off for some therapy and will then return just as Chloe is.
You can be sure that Kristen being knocked up by Eric ain’t happening now. So that leaves us with the question: how are they explaining Kristen’s departure this time around? We already did white slavery.
Anyway, a really bad way to start your morning.
