  2. Dame Kathy Burke’s Upcoming Television Appearances Schedule

If you have no idea who Kathy Burke is, stop reading, and leave immediately with your head hanging in shame! If you’re gay, and don’t know who Kathy Burke is, hand in your gay card right this instant!

Now, with that out of the way…

Kathy’s new Sky television series “Walking And Talking” is due to premiere in the UK on June 11, 2012. Kathy wrote and appears in the show as a nun. “Walking and Talking” is continues Kathy’s “Little Crackers” story from last year. “Little Crackers” was a Christmas series with each episode recreating a celebrity’s childhood memory. Each celebrity appeared in their episode with another actor playing their young selves.  See a clip of Kathy’s “Little Crackers” here. Kathy discusses her episode.

Kathy left acting for an extended period of time after “Gimme Gimme Gimme” which concluded in 2001. From that point on, Kathy focused on directing. In the mid-2000s, she decided that she needed to deal with health issues she had been neglecting. She caught a hospital virus, and ended up having to go back in after having had her surgery. Kathy took part in Dawn French’s documentary series, “Girls Who Do Comedy”. Unlike the regular episodes where all different interviews conducted where scattered throughout, a special episode was done featuring just Kathy’s interview. This was pre-surgery. Kathy believed that she no longer got the same thrill from acting that she got in her earlier years, and that it had become all quite cerebral. Kathy returned to acting in “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”, a role in which she was nominated for a BAFTA Award. Kathy now blames her illness being a major player in her decision to quit acting. She simply wasn’t feeling well. While she returned to acting for Tinker, she again let out that she had quit acting. Cut to a few months ago when it was announced that Kathy would write and appear in a new autobiographical series she created. Kathy seems to go back and forth - is she in, or is she out acting wise?

It what seems like a proper series promotional tour, Kathy is due to appear in the following (so far) in the next couple of week’s leading up to the series premiere of “Walking and Talking”:

Have I Got News For You - May 18

The Graham Norton Show - May 25

I always hope she reveals that she’s going to act more when she does the rare appearance. Hopefully, this new series has stoked her passion for television again! I still cannot fathom why she won’t put in a quick appearance in the new Ab Fabs. Jonathan Harvey (“Gimme Gimme Gimme” creator/writer), is still good friends with her. I wish they would work together again. All in good time me hopes!

These popped up onto the internet by a person who produced bits for the program:

  3. Well, bugger me in Burnley!
Anyone who was a fan of “Gimme Gimme Gimme”, or “Beautiful Thing”, or a fan of poor taste, MUST MUST MUST get Jonathan Harvey’s upcoming book, due August 16, 2012 (accordin to Amazon UK, Amazon Japan, only 1,210 yen!) even though all the promotional material says September.  Seems to be a long book too.  420 glorious pages!  Harvey created and wrote Gimme and Beautiful Thing.
I love the cover quotes!!!
“Part Sue Townsend, Part Coronation St, What More Could You Possibly Want?”
“Laughed, Cried, Missed My Bus”
“Did Jonathan Harvey Used To Be In Crossroads?”
I’m guessing that Linda La Hughes’ quote was lost in the mail… or maybe she’s the one who asked about “Crossroads”.
Side note: Tom Farrell ended up doing “Crossroads” in the very last episode of Gimme - Tom: Linda, I’ve just got a part on one of Britain’s top rated soaps… Linda: No, Tom, it’s “Crossroads”.
Harvey currently writes for “Coronation Street” and “Shameless”.
